Most of the value of Davos is created away from the official programme. Over sixty side events run alongside the Annual Meeting — private dinners, branded houses on the Promenade, investor breakfasts and late-night receptions — and the conversations that matter tend to happen there.
Access is the whole game. Many events are invitation-only; others take applications or are open to members of a given network. A good week is engineered weeks in advance: pick objectives, target the three or four rooms that serve them, and build the rest of the schedule around protecting your energy.
If you are hosting, the bar is high. Guests choose between many competing dinners on the same night, so the guest list and the reason to attend matter more than the venue. Curate ruthlessly, and give people a genuine reason to say yes.
